Xinjiang Geological And Minerals Exhibition Hall With a total area of 8,400 square meters, Xinjiang Geology and Mineral Resources Museum has an exhibition area of more than 4,600 square meters. Nearly 2,000 pictures and charts, various physical specimens and more than 1,000 models including large-scale models such as artificially simulated natural caves and radio-controlled three-dimensional sand tables are on display at the museum.
What to expect
Xinjiang Geology and Mineral Resources Museum is composed of the Universe and Earth Hall, the Life Evolution Hall, the Metal Minerals Hall, the Non-Metallic Minerals Hall, the Energy and Minerals Hall, the Gem-Jade Hall, the Tourism Geology, and the Environmental Geology Hall.
The museum has a collection of more than 12,000 pieces of specimens of minerals, rocks, ores, and fossils. Among the physical specimens on display, there are high-quality minerals, such as oil, coal, antimony, lithium, mica, asbestos, iron ore, nitratine, vermiculite and mirabilite. At the museum, you will find a crystal with a length of 1.7 meters, a diameter of 62 centimeters and a weight of about 780 kilograms, a round natural copper containing 99.84% of copper with a diameter of 35 centimeters, a thickness of 25 centimeters, and a weight of 102 kilograms, and the first transparent diamond in Xinjiang weighing 1.2 carats.
At the Metal Minerals Hall, you will see ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, precious metals and rare earths, and rare and scattered metals (elements). More than 50 kinds of mineral specimens and its industrial products are on display at the hall. The chart at the Energy and Minerals Hall illustrate the development of oil and natural gas resources in the three basins of Tarim, Junggar and Turpan. Models show some situation at the three oil fields of the Tahe, Cainan and Shanshan. A large number of oil products reflect the development of the petrochemical industry in Xinjiang. The Karez model also presents the wisdom of the wise ancestors in Xinjiang.
At the Gem-Jade Hall, you can admire 48 varieties of gemstones known in Xinjiang, 21 varieties of jade, and some ornamental stones with unique charm, such as Hetian jade, Manas jasper, Altay gold nugget, and mineral gold.

The best time to visit Xinjiang Geology and Mineral Resources Museum is in the morning.
The best months to visit are from April to July and from September to October.
How to get to
Several buses pass by the museum. Therefore, there are several options.
Rent a vehicle to the museum. This is the quickest and most direct option.
Take Bus 23, 34, 153, 302, 306, 309, 917 and Bus 921 to the Stop of Youhao Shangchang (友好商场). Then walk to the museum.

Opening hours: 10:30 – 17:30. It is closed on Mondays.
