How to go to Zhangjiajie


In the past Zhangjiajie has been renowned as the bright pearl of northwestern Hunan Province. However, development in this area has lagged behind because of poor communication. Nowadays with the support of the central government, Zhangjiajie has undergone great improvements through the construction of new infrastructure including highways, railways and an airport.

By Air

  • Airport Code: DYG

  • Location: Hehua (Lotus) Village, Yongding District, 5km (3 miles) from Zhangjiajie City

  • Brief Intro: Covering a total area of over 2,700 mu (445 acres), Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport was put into service in 1994 to meet the needs of the city's blooming tourism industry. The terminal is uniquely designed in the traditional architectural style of the local Tujia people. It has just begun an expansion project because of the increasing passenger flow and this will be completed before the beginning of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The new expanded airport is expected to hold 19 parking stands and can cater to the needs of 2,500,000 passengers per year. To date Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport has served over 50 destinations to mainland Chinese cities, Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Xian, Shenyang, Tianjin, Nanjing and Changsha.


Airport Transportation: There is shuttle bus between Zhangjiajie Airport and the Airport Hotel (No.1 Daqiao Road) in the city center. It departs once every 20-30 minutes for the fare is about CNY 5. Bus No.4 and 5 stop at the Airport Hotel and the bus fare is only about CNY1. The airport also has Bus No.3 running to the city proper. Taxis usually charge CNY 15 for one-way service, making transportation fairly convenient.

Tips: The flight schedule frequently changes, so please check the flight information on the screen in the booking office or inquire at the booking office. Tickets can be booked at the Guanghe Airport Booking Office located on the first floor of Guanghe Shopping Center on Yingbin Road or at the Pengcheng Airport Booking Office located at No.30 Ziwu Road (Middle) in Zhangjiajie City.


By Train

There are two railway stations in Zhangjiajie. One is a small station located in Cili County which is used for local traffic. The other is the main Zhangjiajie Railway Station located in Yongding District, 12 kilometers (about 7 miles) from the city center. From Zhangjiajie more than ten big and middle-sized cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha can be reached. Bus No.1, 2, 6 and 7 connect Zhangjiajie Railway Station and the city center. The bus fare is usually about CNY1.If traveling by train from Changsha to Zhangjiajie train number K533/K536 is recommended as it travels a more direct route.

By Long-Distance Bus

The Zhangjiajie Long-distance Bus Station is located at the intersection of Huilong Road and Renmin Road in the city center. There are regular buses to cities such as Changde, Shanghai, Changsha, Yueyang, Wuhan, Dongguan and Zhuhai. Buses to the nearby Yangjiajie Scenic Area and surrounding counties such as Feng Huang (Phoenix) County operate every day. Take bus No. 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to the Zhangjiajie Long-distance Bus Station.


By City-Bus

There are ten bus lines within Zhangjiajie City in total. They service hotels, hospitals, banks, supermarkets and can be very convenient. The bus fare is only CNY1 and buses operate at 30 minute intervals. For example, Bus No.5 goes to the Tujia Folk Customs Park where local folk culture can be experienced.

  • Bus No.2 services the following stops: Zhangjiajie Railway Station, Lantian Grand Hotel, Miaoyuan Hotel, Bank of China Dongmenqiao Branch, Hualian Supermarket, Long-distance Bus Station, Department Store, Peple's Hospital, Bei Dou Xing Hotel, Hulilai Hotel, Xinhe Hotel

  • Bus No.3 services the following stops: Miaoyuan Hotel, Bank of China Dongmenqiao Branch, Hualian Supermarket, Long-distance Bus Station, Department Store, Hulilai Hotel, Xinhe Hotel

  • Bus No.4 services the following stops: Zhangjiajie Lotus (Hehua) Airport, Wai Tai Hotel, Hulilai Hotel, Dragon International Hotel, Department Store, Long-distance Bus Station, Hualian Supermarket, Bank of China Dongmenqiao Branch

  • Bus No.5 services the following stops: Bank of China Dongmenqiao Branch, Hualian Supermarket, Long-distance Bus Station, Department Store, Airport Hotel (Lishui Daqiao), Nanzhuangping, TuJia Folk Customs Park

  • Bus No.6 services the following stops: Dongmenqiao, Wuling Shopping Mall, Department Store, People's Hospital, Wuling University

  • Bus No.7 services by the following stops: Zhangjiajie Railway Station, Lantian Hotel, Miaoyuan Hotel, Martyr Memorial Park, Dragon International Hotel, Department Store, People's Hospital, Hulilai Hotel, Dongyulou Hotel, Minnan International Hotel, City Square.


By Taxi

Traveling around Zhangjiajie City by taxi is inexpensive because of the city's smaller size. The flag-fall price is only CNY3; every additional kilometer costs CNY 1.6.Taxis can be hailed anywhere. The distance from the eastern part of the city to the western costs only CNY10. It is also very convenient to take taxi anywhere in the city to the Zhangjiajie Railway Station and the Zhangjiajie Lotus Airport and costs only about CNY15.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Changsha

Changsha is served as the transfer city to Zhangjiajie. It is located in the southeast of Zhangjiajie in Hunan province. The distance between each other is 321 kilometers away. Travelers can get to Zhangjiajie from Changsha by air, train, and long distance bus.

By Air

There are usually seven flights from Changsha Huanghua International Airport to Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport every day. It takes about one hour.

By Train

No high speed trains go from Changsha to Zhangjiajie right now. Travelers can take normal train from Changsha Railway Station to Zhangjiajie Railway Station. There are 7 trains every day, taking around 4.5 hours to 5.5 hours.

By Coach

There are A LOT coaches running from Changsha to Zhangjiajie. You can go from Changsha West Bus Station, Changzhutan Bus Station, Changsha East Bus Station, Changsha Railway Station, Changsha Huanghua International Airport to different areas of Zhangjiajie such as Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station, Tianmen Mountain cableway, Yellow Dragon Cave.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Shanghai

Shanghai is situated at the mouth of Pearl River Delta in the east of Zhangjiajie. The distance between each other is about 1284 kilometers. Zhangjiajie can be a perfect weekend destination for business people in Shanghai. The most popular way to get to Shanghai is by air.

By Air

There are four direct flights from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport. One in the morning and three at night. It takes about 2.5 hours.

By Train

Only two normal trains go from Shanghai South Railway Station to Zhangjiajie Railway Station. The who length is 20 hours to 22.5 hours. It is time-consuming and you are not recommended to take train to Zhangjiajie from Shanghai.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Beijing

Beijing is capital of China served as the gateway city to China. It is situated in the north China in the northeast of Zhangjiajie, about 1567 kilometers away. Travelers can get from Beijing to Zhangjiajie by air and train. The most convenient way is by air.

By Air

There is only one direct flight from Beijing to Zhangjiajie. If you cannot get a direct flight, you can first transfer to Changsha and then get to Zhangjiajie from Changsha by air, train or long distance bus.

By Train

No high speed trains go from Beijing to Zhangjiajie at present. There are three K trains running from Beijing Railway Station or Beijing West Railway Station to Zhangjiajie. It will take 23 hours to 26.5 hours. For the long time on the train, you are not recommended to take train.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Xian

Traveling from Xian to Zhangjiajie is a common choice. Xian is located at northwest of Zhangjiajie in Shaanxi Province. It is about 970 kilometers away. Travelers can go from Xian to Zhangjiajie by air and train. Flight is first choice from Xian to Zhangjiajie.

By Air

Two direct flights are available from Xian to Zhangjiajie. Both of them will take off at night. It takes about 1.5 hours. If you cannot get a direct flight, you can transfer to Changsha first and then get to Zhangjiajie from Changsha.

By Train

There is only one train from Xian to Zhangjiajie. It goes from Xian Railway Station to Zhangjiajie Railway Station. It takes around 18 hours. It is not recommended to take train to Zhangjiajie for the long time on the road.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Guilin

“East or west, Guilin landscape is the best”. Similar to Zhangjiajie, Guilin is the gorgeous scenic destination worth your time to spend 3 to 4 days. Some travelers who are obsessed with natural scenery, you want to put Guilin and Zhangjiajie in one trip. Guilin is at the south of Zhangjiajie City in Guangxi Province, about 600 kilometers away. The transportation between each other is inconvenient. No direct flights and train access to Zhangjiajie. If go by air, travelers need to transit in Changsha or other cities.

Transfer Tips

  • Guilin -> Liuzhou -> Zhangjiajie: Some travelers would like to reach Liuzhou (柳州) from Guilin first and then take train to Zhangjiajie. Numerous high speed trains run from Guilin to Liuzhou during 07:00 ~ 20:30. And there are three trains running from Liuzhou to Zhangjiajie at 21:03/21:20/23:33, taking 10.5-11.5 hours. It is time-consuming and money-saving.

  • Guilin -> Changsha -> Zhangjiajie: Some other travelers choose to take high speed train to Changsha first and then go to Zhangjiajie either by air, train or by private car. There are 16 high speed trains from Guilin to Zhangjiajie, needing 3-3.5 hours. All the trains will arrive at Changsha South Railway Station. If you go to Zhangjiajie by train, you need to head to Changsha Railway Station for the train. Or, you can use our private car service for a direct drive to Zhangjiajie (about 4 hours). It is time-saving and costs higher than “Guilin-Liuzhou-Zhangjiajie” option.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Yichang

Yichang is the starting or ending point of a Yangtze River Cruise located in Hubei Province. It is situated in the northeast of Zhangjiajie City, about 378 kilometers away. A part of travelers would like to extend their Yangtze River cruise trip

to Zhangjiajie to marvel at the incredible Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. The most recommended way to get from Yichang to Zhangjiajie is by train.

By Train

There are two trains running from Yichang to Zhangjiajie. The suitable one is at noon - K1473 (13:08-18:02). Travelers should arrive at Yichang East Railway Station for the 5-hour train to Zhangjiajie Railway Station.

(Tips: If you take a downstream Yangtze cruise from Chongqing to Yichang, the trip usually ends around 12:30 in Yichang downtown area. But the time is very tight to head to the train station for the train. We recommend you use our private transfer service to pick you up at Three Gorges Dam Site for a direct drive to Yichang East Railway Station to catch the train.)


Get to Zhangjiajie from Chengdu

Chengdu is the “Hometown of Giant Pandas” located in Sichuan Province in western China. It is in the northwest of Zhangjiajie, about 877 kilometers in between. Many travelers choose to visit Zhangjiajie after Chengdu tours. Limited flights are connected Chengdu with Zhangjiajie. No direct train is served between.

By Air

Direct flights are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Chengdu to Zhangjiajie. It takes off at afternoon from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport to Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport. It needs 1.5 hours in total. You’d better check the flights condition before arrange Chengdu Zhangjiajie tour. Or you can transit to Changsha first and then to Zhangjiajie.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Hong Kong

No direct flights and trains are connecting Hong Kong with Zhangjiajie. Travelers need to transfer to mainland cities of China and then to Zhangjiajie.

Transfer Tips:

  • Hong Kong -> Guangzhou -> Zhangjiajie: Travelers can take high speed train to Guangzhou South Railway Station first and then take the direct flight from Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie.

  • Hong Kong -> Changsha -> Zhangjiajie: High speed trains are available from Hong Kong to Changsha, taking 3-3.5 hours. You’ll arrive at Guangzhou South Railway Station. If you go to Zhangjiajie by train, you need to head to Changsha Railway Station for the train. Or, you can use our private car service for a direct drive to Zhangjiajie (about 4 hours).

  • Hong Kong -> Shenzhen -> Zhangjiajie: Travelers can take high speed train to Shenzhen Futian Railway Station or Shenzhen North Railway Station and then take flight to Zhangjiajie (flight is available only at night).


Get to Zhangjiajie from Guangzhou

Guangzhou is located in Guangdong Province at the southeast of Zhangjiajie, about 955 kilometers away. Both Flights and trains are available between Guangzhou and Zhangjiajie. Flight is more convenient than train.

By Air

There are two flights from Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie every day. One is the morning and one is at night. It takes 1 hour and 40 minutes.

By Train

No high speed train is provided at present. There are four K trains running between. If go by train, you should go from Guangzhou Railway Station to Zhangjiajie Railway Station, taking 13.5 hours to 15 hours in total.


Get to Zhangjiajie from Tongren (Guizhou)

Fanjingshan or Mount Fanjing, located within the Wuling mountain range in Tongren City, Guizhou Province, is about 286 kilometers away from Zhangjiajie. At present, the transportation between each other is not so convenient. You can go by train or use our private car service.

By Train

There is only ONE train running from Tongren Railway Station to Zhangjiajie Railway Station. It starts from 12:00 to 16:55, taking around 5 hours. If you go from Zhangjiajie to Tongren, you should arrive at Zhangjiajie Railway Station early to board the train at 03:56.

Otherwise, it is recommended to use our private car service to transfer easily to Mount Fanjingshan.
